Behind a heterogeneous facade lurks a homogeneous reality so complex that seems to
have a life of its own. It is a fact that less than a handful of companies own the
world's communication systems, and another small group basically owns every other
aspect of life. In today's world everything is patented (even DNA), everything is sold,
and basically every aspect of existence turns into and act of consumption.
Is there a problem with this? What's so wrong about the multiple voices becoming one chorus?
If other people more capable can make the decisions for me, why not let them? What's so wrong
with wanting commodities? It is only natural to want to live more comfortable.
The problem with this chorus is that it is only a matter of time before any given institution
granted enough power will prefer to answer to profits than to the well-being of society.
